Portsmouth, New Hampshire — The Gallery at LaBelle Winery Portsmouth, in partnership with Sullivan Framing and Fine Art Gallery in Bedford, New Hampshire, will present an exhibit titled “Bruce McColl: New Paintings” by New Hampshire artist Bruce McColl from Sept. 3, 2019 through Jan. 6, 2020.

An opening reception for the show will be held on Sept. 6, 2019 in conjunction with Portsmouth’s Art ‘Round Town first Friday events. McColl will give an artist’s talk on Oct. 4, 2019, which will also coincide with Art ‘Round Town.

A native of Michigan and a former professional ice hockey player, McColl holds a BA from Brown University and an MFA from Wayne State University. In 2000, he was a recipient of a prestigious Pollock-Krasner Fellowship. McColl is currently Director of Art Education at the Currier Museum of Art in Manchester, New Hampshire. Since 2010, McColl’s work has been shown in several solo exhibits.

McColl, whose current preferred media are watercolor, pencil and crayon, says, “I’m inspired by nature. I look for and travel to landscapes that engage my interest in color, form and design. Considering the beauty of New England, and New Hampshire specifically, and the changeable nature of our setting, I feel blessed to draw from this place.”

Amy Sullivan, owner of Sullivan Framing and Fine Art Gallery says, “We are thrilled to bring the artwork of Bruce McColl to Portsmouth. The Currier Museum of Art in Manchester is just one of the many museums where his work is part of a permanent collection. His love of nature and flowers is evident in his expressive watercolor paintings, and his use of fresh and lively color combinations create a wonderful sense of movement in each piece.”
