Just in time for the growing season, Vineyard Manager John Temchack has just completed our new raised garden boxes! Crafted from Eastern Red Cedar, the boxes are 8 feet long by 3 feet wide, with an inside planting depth of up to 16 ½ inches. Standing beside the Pedroso Vineyard just beyond the Vintage Room Terrace, these handsome garden boxes will soon be filled & planted with an array of herbs & vegetables.
“We are a farm winery, and there was always meant to be an herb & vegetable garden here,” says winemaker Amy LaBelle. During the realization of the vineyard, however, land originally designated for the garden was given to the vineyard to increase the production of grapes. Undeterred, LaBelle commissioned the construction of a series of garden boxes. “We believe in the farm-to-table ethos here. The food we grow here on our land is seasonally in tune, convenient, and most important, fresher. We’ll be planting lettuce, onions, tomatoes and a variety of herbs for use by our chefs in the kitchen, for dishes on our Café menu.”
